๐ฅ At the Doctor: Describing How You Feel
Learn how to talk about your body and health in English. Practice saying what is wrong when you go to the doctor.
Saying 'I have a...'
When you are sick, you can use the verb 'have' to talk about your pain or illness. We often use this with words like 'cold', 'headache', or 'stomachache'. It is very easy and useful. Listen to how people say it: 'I have a headache' means my head hurts. You can also say 'I have a fever' when your body is too hot.
My [Body Part] Hurts
Another great way to describe pain is to use the word 'hurt'. Just say the part of your body first, and then add 'hurts'. For example, your leg, your arm, or your back. If the pain is in two places, we say 'hurt' without the 's'. For example, 'My legs hurt.' This helps the doctor know exactly where you feel bad.
Talking to the Doctor
When you visit a doctor, they will ask questions to help you. They might ask, 'What is the problem?' or 'How do you feel today?' You can answer simply using the phrases you learned. For example, 'I feel tired' or 'I feel sick.' The doctor will listen and then give you medicine to help you feel better.
