๐ Can and Can't for Ability and Permission
Learn how to talk about what you are able to do. You will also learn how to ask for and give permission.
What is 'Can'?
We use the word 'can' to talk about things we know how to do. This is called ability. The word 'can' is the same for all people: I can, you can, he can, she can, it can, we can, they can. After 'can', we use a simple action word like swim, cook, or speak. It is very easy to use and helps you share your skills with friends.
What is 'Can't'?
When we cannot do something, we use 'can't'. 'Can't' means 'cannot'. We use it for things we do not know how to do or things that are not allowed. Just like 'can', the word 'can't' stays the same for everyone. It is a great way to say no politely or explain your limits.
Asking for Permission
We also use 'can' to ask if we are allowed to do something. This is called permission. When you want to do something in a public place or at someone's house, start your question with 'Can I...'. People will answer with 'Yes, you can' or 'No, you can't'. This is very useful for daily life.
