๐ Greetings and Introductions in English
Learn how to say hello, introduce yourself and ask someone's name. These are the first sentences you will use in every conversation.
Saying hello
Use 'Hello' in any situation. 'Hi' and 'Hey' are friendly and informal, for friends and family. With people you don't know, or at work, 'Good morning', 'Good afternoon' and 'Good evening' sound polite. 'Good night' is only for saying goodbye at night.
Introducing yourself
To say who you are, use 'My name is...' or the shorter 'I'm...'. You can add where you are from and what you do. When you meet someone for the first time, say 'Nice to meet you'. The other person often answers 'Nice to meet you too'.
Asking questions
To learn about the other person, ask simple questions. 'What's your name?' and 'Where are you from?' are the most common. 'How are you?' is a greeting, so a short answer is enough: 'I'm fine, thanks. And you?'
Saying goodbye
'Goodbye' is polite and works everywhere. 'Bye' and 'See you!' are informal. 'See you later' and 'See you tomorrow' are useful when you will meet again soon. 'Have a nice day!' is a kind way to end a conversation.
