โณ Talking About the Past: Past Continuous
Learn how to talk about actions that were happening at a specific time in the past. This helps you tell better stories about your day.
What is the Past Continuous?
We use the past continuous to talk about an action that was in progress at a specific time in the past. To make this tense, we use the past form of the verb 'to be' (was or were) plus the main verb with '-ing' at the end. Use 'was' with I, he, she, and it. Use 'were' with you, we, and they.
Asking Questions
To ask a question in the past continuous, we change the order of the words. We put 'Was' or 'Were' first, then the subject (like you or he), and then the verb with '-ing'. This is very useful when you want to ask what someone was doing yesterday.
Making Negatives
To say what you were NOT doing in the past, just add 'not' after 'was' or 'were'. You can also use the short forms 'wasn't' or 'weren't'. This helps you correct mistakes or explain your past actions clearly.
