๐ Possessive 's and Whose
You will learn how to show who owns something. You will also learn how to ask questions about owners.
Using Possessive 's
We use an apostrophe and the letter s ('s) after a person's name or a noun to show that something belongs to them. For example, if the phone belongs to Anna, we say Anna's phone. If it belongs to my sister, we say my sister's bag. Always put the owner first, and the thing they own right after it.
Asking with Whose
We use the question word 'Whose' to ask about the owner of something. When we want to know who owns a specific item, we put the noun right after 'Whose'. For example, we ask 'Whose jacket is this?' or 'Whose keys are these?' to find the owner.
Short Answers
When someone asks a 'Whose' question, we can answer in a few different ways. We can use the possessive 's with a name, or we can use possessive pronouns like 'mine', 'yours', or 'his'. Keeping your answers short and clear helps people understand you quickly in everyday conversations.
