๐Ÿ“ฆ Where Is It? Prepositions of Place

Learn how to use simple words to say where things are. You will talk about everyday objects in your home.

In, On, and Under

We use 'in' when something is inside a space or a box. We use 'on' when something is touching the top surface of a table or a floor. We use 'under' when something is below another object, like the floor beneath a table. These are the most common words for everyday places.

The pen is in the bag.The pen is inside the bag.
The book is on the table. The book is touching the top of the table.
The cat is under the chair. The cat is beneath the chair.

Next To and Between

We use 'next to' when something is beside another thing with no space between them. We use 'between' when something is in the middle of two other things. Look around your room to practice these positions right now.

The lamp is next to the bed.The lamp is beside the bed.
The phone is between the cups. The phone is in the middle of two cups.

Behind

We use 'behind' when something is at the back of another object. The object in front hides part of it. This helps you describe rooms where things are hidden or placed at the back.

The shoes are behind the door. The shoes are at the back of the door.
